> Tire rolling noise prediction method
The prediction method for tire rolling noise is based on three commercial codes Abaqus, FlowVision and LMS Virtual Lab.
▲ The structural dynamic simulation of rolling tire is carried out in Abaqus.
▲ The flow field simulation is a co-simulation process between Abaqus and FlowVision which couples the deformation of tire structure and flow field.
▲ The pressure waves of air-flow around the rolling tire or on the tire surface are extracted to calculate the near-field acoustic pressure as a boundary condition in Virtual Lab.
Exchange of information between Abaqus and FlowVision takes place during the whole simulation process. It’s a 2-way coupling simulation which means the flow-field interacts with and the physical field. The CFD model and the setting of boundary conditions are show below.
> Acoustic receivers
Acoustic receivers are placed in the acoustic field according to the setting of experiment. The receiver we used to analyze the sound pressure level (SPL) and frequency spectrum of noise is in 90 degrees, 4.5m away from the tire and 1.2m high off the ground as shown below.
> Results and discussion
To verify the accuracy of the simulation method, the simulation results are compared with the experiment. The layout of the position of mic and the setting of boundary conditions are totally according to the experiment. The results show that the SPL for the simulation and experiment is 79.2dB (A) and 77.1dB (A) respectively. The frequency spectrum results are compared in the picture below. We can see that the frequency of pitch noise can be caught precisely using this method and total trend of the frequency spectrum of simulation and experiment results are in good agreement.
